When an expired domain is remade with less pages?

Wouldn’t it be a red flag for google if a big authority site that used to have 100s of pages expired then comes back as a site with around 10 pages?

I feel like it could be obvious to an algorithm that the site dosen’t deserve all its links and is being used as a PBN?

For example, I found a decent expired news site(i think) that has about 400 referring domains, 15TF, 45 ahrefs DA. Its beyond me to remake 100s of articles so i just wrote 10 500 word articles. Which is what most PBN guides…
